Just around the corner

For the past few days I have been working very small shifts. By that definition I mean shifts that are about 4 hours long. In a way it is a nice break from opening all the time and it gives me a chance to get back into the swing of a full time schedule. We have been pretty slow for the past few months so it’s a nice change of pace. Don’t get me wrong the slow season has been good for me to regenerate and get things settled but now is the time to kick it into high gear. Summer after all is right around the corner and I still don’t know what my exact plans are.

I’m hoping I will be able to get my bus in the next few months and get things started. I’m trying to get back out to Colorado and travel out in that area more.

Because of the change in the tourism being right around the corner we have also hired a few extra hands. For me it’s kind of hard to get used to new faces and it takes time to adjust. I then have to learn these persons ups and downs, the strengths and weaknesses, along with their names and learn about how they do under pressure. Sure we work in an ice cream shop but when we have a line out the door and your handling large numbers of people for hours on end...well it gets really crazy. Your shouting over one another, you’re getting ice cream everywhere, your handling money, your cutting items, packaging, giving instructions, telling people what certain items are, and so much more. It is complete chaos and through it all you have to make your way around all the other people that you are working with.

Some people can handle pressure and others can’t so of course you have to learn these things about your team mates so that when they need help you can pick up the extra loads and help as necessary. So it takes time for me to adjust. Of course I’m not sure if I will be here for the summer rush but if I am well...then I am sure it will be just as thrilling as it was last summer.

The busy season is right around the corner and I can’t wait to see what is about to come!
