Teaching him to shoot

The other day we went and did some shooting for the first time in a long time. This time though we brought the bf along for the journey. See unlike me he didn’t grow up around firearms and he didn’t really have anybody to teach him or to give him the guide to not only protect himself but to also know something that could potentially feed him and his family if the apocalypse came along. Not only that but I just think it would be good for him to know how to handle my firearms since I am the owner of three. I can only imagine how many different ways that things could go wrong if he did not know how to load, arm, and fire one properly.

So we went out to the range and we got a day pass for him to shoot. We started out with pistols and he got his first taste of what it is like to fire a weapon. Surprisingly he was actually pretty good at it. He hit the paper and he got some bullseyes. For me I was surprised because I was able to do 7 feet and 10 feet with the pistol. Usually I do ok at the first station but once I go farther out it gets a little more difficult for me to aim straight.

Once the pistols were out of amo we moved to the rifle range. We set everything up and I started out with the AR 15 while D started out with the AR22. Really it was quite fun to teach him how they work, how to aim, and from there how to load and unload the weapons. I gave him the weapon with less kickback so that he could start slow and once I was done with a few mags for the 15 I allowed him a turn on the big boy (my baby basically) and he was surprised by the amount of kick it gave. You could hear him as he let out a little "Oh" when the first shot was fired.

Of course the amo for the 15 ran out pretty quickly and once it was out we decided to go through the rest of the amo for the 22. They gave us another hour or so of firing and practice and I can say that it most definitely made me happy and surprised that he was enjoying it as much as he was. I love seeing him not only enjoying what I love but also learning new things for himself.

What a great way to spend the day with my two favorite guys.
