Canada: Staring

So one of the things I noticed while we were in Canada was all the staring I got. For some reason it must be rare to see a female with tattoos so out in the open. Maybe it's a Cultural thing, maybe it's a Canadian thing, or maybe I look strange to them. Either way it became apparent that I was getting looks. It went from getting looks on the subway to getting looks while we are running in the campground. Then it progressed to our camping neighbors at the KOA to just flat out being rude. I'm not sure what they all thought because none of them said anything with their mouths but of course their eyes said enough.

Usually I get some second looks or a quick look up and down and then people move along but maybe it's because tattoos are more common in the U.S. Every Time we were on the train I tried to find someone with ink so that I wouldn't feel weird having all my ink showing. My art isn't hard to miss and quite honestly I like it when people can see them. Sure they are a part of my body but they are also a form of expression and I do like the wear comfortable shorts and when I wear shorts 90% of my art is showing. There is no hiding it and quite honestly I could give less than a damn on if someone likes my ink or not. It's my body not yours.

But flat out staring is another realm. I'm not used to it and it throws me off. It makes me self aware and it makes me think im strange or out of place. IN the U.S it catches some attention but not 80% of the people you are around. It just doesn't make sense to me and it gets tiring after a while.

As much as I like Canada and enjoyed our trip I am glad to be home and away from the staring eye of the people there. Im sure the next time I visit I won't notice but this time around it just struck a chord with me.

If you are one of those people that just plains stares please be aware that the person you're probably staring at more than likely knows you're staring and may feel uncomfortable. Some people don’t but others do so be nice and try to keep your eyes to yourself, Maybe take a quick look but don’t get weird on them. There's no reason for it.
