Broke his wrist

It's not very often that people get seriously injured around me. I have crazy stories for days but when it comes to people getting hurt I luckily have not had anything bad happen. Until now. I was out running yesterday and as I was getting into the groove and getting ready to sprint the last half mile I saw another guy heading my way with a dog so I decided to go ahead and switch over to the other side of the road so that not only would I give him space but the dog space as well. I didn't know how the dog was with other people so I thought it was an appropriate thing to do.

So I'm running and trying to get myself geared up into the sprint when a car goes by. When the car passes I notice that the guy who was running with his dog was on the ground, rolling. Literally rolling. His phone was in the road, his dog was running around freely, the guy was clutching his face and then attempting to stand up. It was the whole craziness of it that sent me in shock. I stopped my watch, stopped my music, looked both ways and came over to him.

"Are you ok?" I asked trying to get a gauge of what the appropriate thing to do is. This had never happened before and I was lost. When he didn't respond to my question but kept crying out in pain and trying to stand up only to flop back on the ground I asked him again.

"Are you ok?" He glanced at me and finally responded "No"

Well, at least I got an answer. I proceeded to pick up his earphones and his cell phone and moved them to the grass where they wouldn't get run over if anything happened and caught his dog so that the dog didn't get run over either. After a minute I looked at him.

"Do you want me to call someone?" He didn't reply. I was ready to call 911 or even a friend. I assumed he lived in the neighborhood and because of that, I was hoping that he wasn't far from his home. After a few more pants, and rolls in the grass he replied with "no.." and proceeds to stop for a moment. He grunts in pain and looks at me.

"Are you sure you don't want me to call someone?" I ask again trying to make sure that he was ok enough to get home or to call someone on his now cracked phone. I literally was the only one around helping and it didn't feel right to leave him when he was bleeding everywhere.

For a moment he paused and started sitting up.  "No...I think I broke my wrist". Oh. Great.

I had no idea what to say. I could only imagine how much it hurt. I tried to be polite while he got up and hobbled to his dog. I made sure to back up some and give him some space. I offered probably five or so times in our conversation if I could help him but he refused every time I tried to help out. I watched as he ignored me and started to walk slowly back to wherever his home was. With a heavy sigh I shrugged it off and got back to running. He refused assistance and I wasn't going to force it on him. I just hope the dudes ok.
