I’ve gone back and forth on being modern and old fashioned. I like different things from different times and I usually get specific about it. For instance I really do like letters. Not just any kind of letters though, the letters that have handwriting on them and are full of surprises. It really says a lot about a person when they write you a letter and I always like to see how a person thinks. When we write we can express more about ourselves with how our handwriting is, how we see the world thorough words and loose descriptions, and if you put anything else inside the letter like a picture or little souvenirs from where you live. Something to say "hey I was thinking of you" along with you handwritten letter.
For me I have bounced back and forth between writing on a computer and in a notebook. I like to write down my vivid dreams and sometimes conversations that have happened with people I care about. Sometimes I write about characters from a story I’m writing or maybe my thoughts, Either way I can never pick how to go about my writing. When I was in high school I got inspired by one of my friends to keep writing in journals and so for two years I used composition books and fancy journals. I used about five notebooks in two and a half years and even made a binder with my stories so that I can present them in my Creative Writing Class. I loved it and I loved that there was a community of people who thought like I did. People who imaged like I did. Others who loved the feeling of handwriting your stories and correcting them on paper. It was so awesome and I loved every second of it. To this day I still have the journals and go through them often.
You can learn so much about yourself when you write things on paper. You can see emotion, you can feel the anger or the sadness, so much can be said in just a few entries. I have a friend now who is writing letters back and forth with me. She is so awesome and I am so glad that she suggested it. Sometimes old school things are so much better then what we have now.
Its something we can keep with us and something to last a lifetime.
