The other day I had to go into Hobby Lobby. Now I don’t know what you guys think of that place but for me it is heaven in a store. Especially when it comes to artist supplies. I go there once every couple of months to re-up on Canvas's and supplies and every time I do that I always end up making random pieces based on what I see is for sale.
The nice thing about Hobby Lobby is that they are always having random sales and every time I go in, it’s on new materials that I didn’t use last time. So knowing me and my ability to make random art pieces I went in with an open mind. It has been a while since I had bought canvas's and honestly I wasn’t sure what I wanted to create. My feelings recently had been everywhere I feel like I am at a point where there are so many paths I can choose from and there are so many doors that are presented to me. So based on that I picked up materials where I can make pathways and try out new things.
I love making pieces that are more interactive and stick out to the common eye. For me that is what an artist should be doing and I am always down to go beyond what others have done. I can’t begin to tell you how many pieces I have made on a random and they have turned out so good.
When I had finished shopping and got to the checkout line the lady was very enthusiastic and we ended up chatting as we made our way through my pile of stuff. She was very nice and we got to chatting about art and how she has a family of artists. There was one point though where I handed her huge things of Styrofoam and she gave me this look that questioned what I do for a living but other than that she seemed to be very interested in what I do.
Once we were done and I had said my goodbyes, she gave me a large smile and wished me luck on my creations and in exchange I replied that I hoped she had an awesome rest of her day. My reward? A huge smile on her face.
That was enough to make my day.
