The fateful day arrived before I knew it. At my part time job I had been given a shift where I learn how to make waffle cones. Yes, make waffle cones. I was very nervous and I honestly wasn’t sure how I felt learning something with like that. For most of the day I was dreading going to work and it wasn’t just because of the shift, It was just because it meant I had to leave my house and I didn’t want to at that time. All I could think about was how I could stay home and watch anime while eating my delicious chocolate.
But sadly I had to go to work. Now getting there isn’t the issue and I am normally fine until I get to the actual door. I even stopped for a second and took a deep breath. I get inside and its busy. Everyone is serving customers and I am sure that someone is going to drop something.
When I clock in I get a set of instructions to follow and I do exactly as I am told. I set up my machine, I get my apron, I wash my hands, put on the gloves, get to mix ready, and then I butter the machine down and get it ready for a couple test runs. Let me tell you that I can see myself dropping that piece of slippery glass at some point. One wrong squeeze and it would go jumping out your fingers in no time. In this situation I carefully carried it to the microwave and back. Once we get the butter ready we began to butter the machine. We do two rounds for the machine before we put on a nonstick spray. With that we get to the actual training which is making the waffle cones and learning about weight, size and timing. I can say that I made a lot of mistakes and I was very nervous but once I got into a rhythm I felt like it was more of an art.
You had to get the measurements just right, time it correctly and roll it tight to make sure there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
For the rest of the day I spent learning about waffle cones and just working the day away but it also taught me that I really need help in the department of multitasking. I pay lots of attention o my surroundings but im terrible with getting to into the zone. Sometimes you have to try out new things to learn more about yourself. This was just another thing to add to my list.
Im glad I learned to make waffle cones, it really was fun and maybe I will get to make them for longer. It might be more fun then I originally thought.
