Claw to Nail

Just recently I got a pretty terrible injury from Siruis Midnight (my father's cat) and its the second time something like this has happened. See Midnight is a very cuddly and loving cat but he is also a cat that doesn’t understand that when your hands are under the covers...well he doesn’t realize that its actual hands. So I was messing around with him and for a minute he seemed to just watch me and had no interest but as soon as it clicked that we were playing around he started pawing at my hand. It was cute, it always starts out cute but then he took a quick swipe and his claw went into the covers.

I’m not sure if it’s because of his hunting days or if it was just some x-ray vision but let me tell you that he got me good. I took my hand out from under the covers and there was blood. He got my middle finger and right at the top of my nail and it went down in a line towards the center of my nail. Part of the nail was sticking up and the blood was moving quickly. Now I don’t know if anyone on here has had nail injuries before but I have had some serious ones in the past.

For a while the pain is nonexistent and once you clear the dead skin and have about five minutes, the pain comes in. This wasn’t screaming pain but it was enough to make you shake your hand every minute or so in hopes that if you flicked it just right the pain would go away. Obviously it did not. From what I could tell he went through the nail and scraped the top layering off and left the rest of it intact. So no chunks of skin underneath and luckily the entire nail didn’t get ripped off.

Now were going to start doing mandatory cat nail trims and no more just "playing" with Midnight. He is one serious threat to anyone who crosses him.
