About a year ago, I upgraded my van with a fridge, replacing my old cooler. My dad had gotten one for his trailer, and after seeing his, I decided to make the switch. I was constantly struggling to organize food in the cooler, and things would spoil quickly.
I wanted to keep food fresh longer and have the ability to freeze items, so a fridge was the perfect solution. I chose a Kohree fridge, and it's been one of the best investments I've made for my "off-grid" van life. Kohree is a company that specializes in portable refrigeration, and they seem to have a good reputation for reliability and efficiency, especially for RV and van conversions. They offer a range of sizes and features, which is helpful when trying to find the right fit for your vehicle.
I found the Kohree fridge on sale through Amazon and bought it so I could freeze things like chicken and Lylah's treats. It's really helped me plan meals for two weeks instead of just a few days. Plus, it's low-voltage and can run all day without a problem. Of course, if your fridge is connected to the van's battery, you'll need to drive periodically to recharge it. Alternatively, you can use a generator for about an hour to recharge separate batteries powering the fridge. Both options work well.
Kohree also offers a version without the freezer compartment (which is the one my dad has), so you can choose the style that best suits your needs. The fridges are reasonably priced, and Amazon often has them on sale, so it's worth keeping an eye out for deals. They're a fantastic, more affordable option compared to the $1000-$2000 price tag of many other fridges.
