Inspired from the Grateful Dead

The other day I finally was able to do a piece for a customer. He had asked me to give my interpretation of an album cover that he really liked and so I gave it my best shot. Now I am not really good with realism so for me it was pretty difficult to do. The piece had a lot of windows, craters, and lines that I knew I couldn't really do well so I decided to make it more simplistic so that the person could interpret it how they wished to. I really think that it turned out pretty well considering that I had to mix spray paint and acrylic paint. Spray paint for the galaxy and the hotel that is in the piece and then acrylic paint to add some texture and depth. I don't know how he will feel about it but I do hope that he likes it. If not then the piece will go up for sale in the gallery.

The whole idea behind the piece was that since it is a hotel on Mars I thought that mars would be more of a desolate place. The hotel itself is like a void that you can enter but not get out of. It has no windows or doors it is only an empty void. For the landscape I decided to go with a more neutral idea then running with what Mars really looks like.  wanted to make it seem like the universe was brighter and bigger then just the planet itself. Really I think the colors are vibrant and with the different medias it makes the piece pop more.

Of course its not all 100% from the album cover (which is Grateful Dead from the Mars Hotel) and I think that is ok since it was supposed to be based off of my interpretation. It was fun and I hope I get to do more pieces kind of like this one. If you have something you want me to interpret and give a try then please email me at kairia.rocks@gmail.com and I will see what I can do. I can't guarantee that it will be accurate or amazing but I am willing to give it a try.
